How Virtual Permits work

Resident permits for On-Street parking are now available virtually. This means you no longer need to purchase a physical paper permit from the Council. A parking session will be created virtually through RingGo whilst the parking attendants view your booking on their handheld enforcement computer terminal.

To obtain an e-Permit, you need to submit your application online. Your application will ask for you to upload written confirmation on headed business notepaper with an authorised signature.

Your application will then be sent to Central Bedfordshire Council to be approved. This can take up to five working days to review. When the application has been approved you will receive an email informing you of the decision. Within the email you receive you can use the contained hyperlink to pay for your parking permit. Once your permit has been purchased you are then able to start using your virtual permit immediately.

When you purchase your permit online you can start your parking in advance or immediately. If you are purchasing an annual permit you can start your permit in advance of up to 30 days as your application is only valid for twelve (12) months. If you are purchasing a monthly or quarterly (three months) permit you do not need to complete another application to purchase another month, you simply log back in to myRingGo and purchase a new permit session by following the same process. You can do this on a month-by-month or four quarterly periods until the 12 months is reached. You will then be required to renew your application.

If you do not have an email address, Central Bedfordshire Council will send a letter to notify you that your application has been approved by post.

When your permit is due to expire you will receive an email (or a letter if you do not have an email address) to remind you to renew. You can then access your previous application, update any details as necessary to be reviewed by the Council for your next annual permit.

Benefits of a Virtual Permit

The benefits of using an e-Permit are:

  • No need to send anything in the post
  • No need to wait for a paper permit to be sent in the post
  • The permit can start on any day in the month
  • Quick and simple, once registered you can park for up to a year without re-applying
  • No need to send a cheque in the post and no surcharging on credit card payments
Where can I park?

The Car Park Permits allow you to park in the yellow bays for permit holders within the car park that you purchased your permit.

Change of Vehicle

Virtual permit sessions are enforced by the parking attendant by viewing the vehicle registration number. Therefore, if you change your vehicle or decide to park a new vehicle your permit session must be updated with RingGo prior to parking.

If you need to change the active vehicle on the virtual session then you can do so online. Click here to access the Help section of the RingGo website which enables you to change the vehicle on your permit session. Just remember to change it back when you return to using your regular vehicle!

Refunds

If you no longer require your virtual permit you can obtain a pro-rata refund. The refund applies to any whole months that remain unused as at the date of surrender of the permit. To obtain a refund you must contact Central Bedfordshire Council direct by the below methods:

Telephone: 0300 300 8005

Email: parking@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
